3 Day Fast – Mind, Body, Spirit

If you’ve been on my Facebook page, you know that recently I completed a three (3) day fast with friends. I am sure they would agree that it was a very enlightening experience mentally, physically and spiritually. As I was skeptical about the benefits that a fast would bring to me, I have never felt better and I cannot wait to do it again.

The goal of my fast was to cleanse and detoxify my body without losing weight. To accomplish this goal, I modified my fast to consist of at least one major protein source a day, along with adequate amounts of water, fresh salads, fresh fruit and vegetable juices. Given my hectic work schedule, I needed to do a fast that would not be terribly aggressive. I didn’t want to be making constant bio breaks at work, I needed to maintain enough energy to function throughout the day, and I still needed to be able to allow my body to cleanse and detoxify itself.

As a result of this fast, here are some of the changes I have noticed about my mind and body:

– Clearer and increased ability to focus my thoughts

– A more relaxed attitude (able to let things roll off my shoulder easily – my daughter alerted me to this one)

– Brighter and clearer skin

– Decreased cravings for junk food and carbohydrates

– Increased clarity while meditating

– Increased energy to perform my daily tasks

Over the next couple of days, I will be sharing with you the benefits of fasting, do’s and don’ts, juice recipes, and a sample of my lifestyle regimen during the three day period.

P.S.: My body wasn’t the only thing that was cleansed during this fast. I got an overhaul mentally and spiritually, as well! While fasting I stopped watching television and stopped listening to the radio and/or my Ipod (only listening to spiritual music of my choice). By limiting my access to outside influences (like social settings), I was able to connect with myself on a deeper level without any outside interference. As a result, I was able to focus more on my personal goals, re-define and map out those goals for the next 6 months, and better define personal and business relationships that were no longer meeting my needs. For me, during this fast I was reminded of the importance of taking the time to nourish your mind, body, soul as you are only here – now!
